Majority of them have difficulties in focus and emotion, and it is not easy to tell them to cncentrate or focus in learning. They enter into the classroom with empty brain, and they do not have any purposes to go to school. Therefore, the alternative ways or strategies are very urgent. There are ten strategies that can be used to cultivate focus and emotion to our students in learning. What is HOTS?

     HOTS in Learning Activity 

        HOTS is one of the most important parts in learning activities for now days. All of the teaching and learning processes, like the use of method in teaching, the assessment system, and the others must use HOTS. The application of HOTS in the learning process in practice, is not as easy as said in theory.  Therefore, The use of HOTS  needs training and guide for teachers in other they know how to use HOTS in the process of teaching and in the assessment system. To perceive t"HOTS" more detail we should know the definition of HOTS, and Use of HOTS itself.

a. The Definition of HOTS

     HOTS can be meant as high order think skill in which both teachers and students in the learning process should use thinking. In other words, a teacher in delivering or presenting  material should use method or approach that can support the development of students' thinking. At least the teacher can use stimulus in supporting their students to develop their thinking, view or idea.Thus, the definition of HOTS is creative thinking, critical thinking, logical thinking, reflective thinking, and metacognitive thinking.

b. The use of HOTS


Implementation of HOTS in the process of teaching and learning has a lot of advantages, like :
1. Developing students'thinking ability
2. Training the students to think
3.Train the students in solving the problems

c. Application of HOTS in the Classroom

   The application of HOTS in the classroom can be classified into two parts, that is the use of HOTS in contextual learning, and the use of HOTS in assessment system.

1. The use of HOTS in learning process/contextual learning

     The use of HOTS in contextual learning usually uses a stimulus, because by the stimulus the 
      teacher can motivate their students to think, solve the problems, and express their point of view.
     ‘A good teacher makes you think even when you don’t want to.  critical and creative thinking are                 fundamental to students becoming successful learners.’
    ‘Thinking that is productive, purposeful and intentional is at the centre of effective learning.’ 

2.  The use of HOTS in Assessment System


     In make question  with HOTS, the teacher should know the verbs used in advance, namely the verbs that are classified into  C4, C5, and C6. However, the verbs in the C2  also can be used when the verbs used through the process of thinking. Thus, the questions in the assessment system should contains the thought not just recall.
