A Culture and Language
1. The Definition of Culture
Understanding Culture – in a life of human beings cannot be separated from culture
and customs.
According to several experts, the word "culture" comes from (Sanskrit) that is "buddayah" which is the plural form of
the word "budhi" meaning prudence or common sense. The culture is defined
as "things that are concerned with discretion or common sense". The
sense of culture in general are the result of copyright, taste and human

2. The Link between Culture and Language
Language
and culture seems as if cannot be separated in human life, especially in the
world of education of language itself. The
language is often thought of as a product of culture. On the other hand, the
formation of culture cannot be released from the role of the dominant language.
Fishman (quoted from Risager, 2006) formulated the three tight linkages between
language and culture by stating that language is "section",
"index" and "symbolic" culture. As a "section" of
culture, language plays an important role as a bridge in cultural
understanding, especially for those who want to learn a lot about the culture.
As an "index" of culture, languages reveal a way of thinking or
organizing experience in culture certain.
Thus, in learning a language well and successfully, the language learners should know and learn the language and habits of the country if not they will encounter the difficultties in learning the language.
